I bought the 2 camera system and this camera is Super! Yes you have to run a wire to power it (Duh!). But the signal is sent through 2.4ghz. RF (the wireless portion). You can mount the little DVR anywhere that you can get reception. I have mine down in the Den next to my recliner, but, you can move it quickly if you will need to monitor from, say, the kitchen. The two way "intercom" is good to have!
If you require power outage protection, you will will need to install a ups power outlet for every single camera (use one for a pc and hook the camera provide into the outlet from the ups)
I set up the method and installed two cameras in an afternoon devoid of any stress. It did take a small planning, but, it was definitely straightforward.
It is a lot more affordable than the multi thousand dollar systems. And the photographs (even after dark) are spectacular!
I have this up and operating for 1 month and it is wonderful...the picture top quality is fantastic, sound excellent very good, and night vision is fine, I would get this once again..A+
